Eva Ebin was born in Munkacs, Hungary in 1926 to Jeno and Ilona Szegel. Her childhood dream was to become a physician, which she writes, “was unheard of” for a woman at that time. Strong willed, determined and resilient, she refused to let anything get in her way – including the Holocaust. Eva was imprisoned in Auschwitz at age 17, losing her parents and large extended family immediately upon arrival. She nearly succumbed to typhus and the life threatening injury she sustained at a second concentration camp.
